Early Tiger Run Leads Memphis to Wire-to-Wire Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A 17-0 run to start the game gave the Memphis Tigers all the momentum they would need, as they ran past the McNeese Cowboys for a 104-65 win at FedExForum on Tuesday evening. The Tigers had 35 assists in the game on 43 made baskets, the assist total marking the highest in the NCAA this season and the second-most in a game in program history.
The Tigers improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2010-11, as Dedric Lawson and K.J. Lawson each recorded double-doubles for their fourth and third straight games, respectively. Lawson scored a game-high 20 points, hitting 9-of-14 shots from the field, while Craig Randall II scored 18, making 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.
K.J. Lawson scored 13, while Markel Crawford and Keon Clergeot each scored 11. K.J. Lawson and Jeremiah Martin each dished out seven assists, while Dedric Lawson and Christian Kessee each gave out six helpers. The two Lawsons each pulled down 10 rebounds, as Memphis out-rebounded the Cowboys 47-to-31.
Memphis made its first eight shots of the game en route to jumping out to the 17-0 lead. The margin never reached single digits again, although McNeese closed the first half gap to as few as 14 at 37-23 with 2:50 to play in the opening half. The Tigers closed the period strong, out-scoring the Cowboys 6-1 over the final three minutes to take a 19-point, 43-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.
McNeese scored the first four points of the second half, and trailed by 15 at 45-30 with 17:52 to play; however, the Tigers answered 25-8 run to push the margin to 33 at 71-38 with just over 11 minutes to play.
The Memphis margin grew to as many as 44, when the Tigers led 88-44 with just under six minutes to play, as Memphis cruised to the 104-65 win.
The game marked the first time since February 4, 2014 that the Tigers scored 100 or more points, and 12 of the 13 players that saw action in the game scored, including the first collegiate baskets for Jonathan Bins and Kaleb Castro - both on three-pointers.
Memphis hit 43-of-74 shots in the game for a percentage of 58.1, while converting on nearly half (12-of-25) from beyond the arc. McNeese made 38.7 percent (24-of-62) of its shots from the field, and 5-of-16 (31.3 percent) from long range.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, November 25, when the team faces off at 7:30 p.m. (CT) against the Providence Friars in the first game of the Destin Realty Emerald Coast Classic.
