Tigers Run Past Buccaneers in Exhibition Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Tigers jumped out to a 26-7 lead and never looked back, topping the Christian Brothers Buccaneers 69-42 at FedExForum on Monday afternoon.
The balanced Tiger effort saw four players in double-figure scoring, including three: Markel Crawford, K.J. Lawson, and Dedric Lawson, with 11 points each. Christian Kessee added 10 points, as Craig Randall scored eight and Chad Rykhoek seven. Dedric Lawson pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, with Crawford grabbing seven and K.J. Lawson six.
Memphis had 19 assists on 24 made baskets in the contest, with six players dishing out at least two helpers in the contest. Jeremiah Martin dished out a game-high five assists, while Dedric Lawson had four.
Memphis and CBU traded baskets to start the game, with a K.J. Lawson lay-in matched by the Buccaneer's Adam Dieball. After the 2-2 tie score, the Tigers ran off a 24-5 run to push the host's lead to 19 with just under six minutes to play in the opening half. The first-half margin reached as many as 31, when Kessee hit a three-point basket with seven seconds left in the half to send the Tigers into the locker room with a 44-13 advantage.
A dozen players saw action in the second half, as the Tigers cruised to the 27-point victory.
Alex Trentman scored a game-high 20 points for Christian Brothers, hitting 4-of-7 shots from long range, and was the only CBU player in double-figures in the game.
Memphis hit 44.4 percent of its shots in the game (24-of-54), while holding CBU to 24.1 percent shooting (14-of-58).Ā
Dedric Lawson added a game-high three steals for Memphis, as he and Rykhoek each blocked two shots.
The Tigers open the 2016-17 regular season on Monday, November 14 when the team hosts UTRGVĀ at 7 p.m. at FedExForum.
