Jackson Brady scores first collegiate goal
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Memphis men's soccer team picked up a point on the road with a 1-1 tie at UCF Saturday evening. The Tigers move to 2-5-3 overall and 1-1-1 in American Athletic Conference play. This was the fourth overtime match for Memphis this season.
"In a conference match, this is just like the rest of them. It was a battle until the end," said head coach Richard Mulrooney. "Jake came up with a big penalty save and we will take our one point out of it and move on."
In the 83rd minute of the match, senior goalkeeper Jake Leeker came up with the biggest play of the night, a save on a penalty kick by UCF. The penalty kick gave the Knights the opportunity to take the lead late, but Leeker's diving save kept the scored tied at 1-1.
Memphis took the early lead over the Knights on Jackson Brady's first collegiate goal in the 10th minute of the match. Jackson Morse and Burke Fahling each were credited with the assist on Brady's shot from 12-yards out.
Just under seven minutes later, UCF scored the game-tying goal on a header that followed a corner kick.
Much of the match was played in the midfield including both overtime periods. There was a combined two shots in the final 20 minutes of the match.
Leeker finished with two saves for the Tigers. Fahling led Memphis with two shots on the night. Fahling is now up to four assists on the year to lead Memphis.
Memphis will return home this week for a 7 p.m. Wednesday night match against Lipscomb at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex. For more information on the Memphis men's soccer team, follow the Tigers on Facebook at /MemphisSoccer and on Twitter and Instagram at @MemphisMSoccer.
