MEMPHIS, Tenn. – No. 15/18 Memphis women's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision against the USF Bulls to close the weekend.
Memphis outshot the Bulls by a 17-5 margin throughout the match, but a pair of Bulls' goals in the second half was too much to overcome.
"You can't blame the effort. It's disappointing," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "You have to finish your chances, and that's what today came down to. One, you have to create chances, and two, you have to finish them. It's just a disappointing loss today."
In a match featuring two of the country's top two offenses, it was the defense that stood tall in the first half. Memphis collected 10 shots throughout the first 45 minutes, including five on goal, but USF keeper Sydney Martinez kept the game scoreless at half with five saves.
Memphis continued the momentum in the second half when Tanya Boychuk sent a shot just wide 30 seconds into the frame.
The Bulls swung the momentum and got on the board in the 47th minute on a score by Evelyne Viens.
In the 61st minute, Viens added her second goal of the game and set the 2-0 final.
Memphis continued to pepper Martinez with shots but could not find the back of the net. The Tigers finished the match with 10 shots on goal to USF's three.
The Tigers will be back in action later this week for their final road trip of the season. Memphis will face UConn on Thursday before wrapping up the weekend with a visit to Temple on Oct. 21.
