Tigers return home for midweek doubleheader Tuesday

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Memphis softball team fell to Tulsa Sunday afternoon in the series finale by a score of 12-5. Memphis drops to 18-17 on the year and 2-4 in American Athletic Conference play with a midweek doubleheader on tap next Tuesday against Alcorn State.

Much like Saturday's matchup, the Tigers took an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. The Tigers strung together four hits, including a two-run home run by Ryleigh Aungst, to take the early lead.

Memphis added one more in the top of the second by way of a triple by Delaney Smith and a double by Ashley Threatt. Threatt extended her hitting streak to six games and her on-base streak to a team-leading 12 games with her second-inning double.

Tulsa responded with one in the third and seven in the fourth to take an 8-4 lead over the Tigers. The Golden Hurricane tallied six hits in the fourth inning while also capitalizing on a Memphis miscue.

One more run in the top of the fifth by Memphis proved to be the closest the Tigers would come for the remainder in the contest. The Tigers scattered eight hits on the day, including two by Delaney Smith and Threatt.

Karli Perque was dealt the loss against Tulsa. The Tigers once again pitched by committee against the Golden Hurricane as four pitchers saw action in the game.

Notables

Ashley Threatt extended her on-base streak to 12 games and her hitting streak to six games.
Delaney Smith recorded her fifth triple of the season. She also helped lead Memphis with two hits and two runs scored.
Ryleigh Aungst's home run was her team-leading fifth of the season.
Regan Hadley and Gracie Morton recorded walks for Memphis.
