Memphis Welcomes Alabama State Wednesday Night

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tigers are set for their final nonconference matchup of the regular season, hosting Alabama State at 7 p.m. Wednesday at FedExForum on ESPN+.

It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs after last season's game was canceled.

The Tigers (9-3) are coming off an 83-79 victory over Texas A&M Saturday night, giving them a 6-1 record against Power Five opponents on the season. The three losses by the Tigers this season have been by a combined 10 points.

Alabama State enters the game 1-10 on the year, riding a four-game skid after defeating Eastern Illinois 67-58 on Nov. 26. The Hornets are coached by former Tiger standout and assistant coach, Tony Madlock.

Madlock (1998-92) made up the backcourt with Penny Hardaway when the Tigers made the Elite Eight run in 1992. He was a member of four postseason teams for Memphis, two NCAA Tournaments and two NIT's, and spent three seasons as an assistant coach under Hardaway from 2018-21 where he helped reel in the No. 1 recruiting class for 2019.

The Tigers have won 11-straight games at FedExForum and are 61-9 at home under head coach Penny Hardaway. The home winning streak is currently the longest streak in the American Athletic Conference and the 25^th-longest streak in the nation.

In a game that took nearly three hours with 49 fouls called, the Memphis Tigers outlasted Texas A&M to earn an 83-79 victory inside FedExForum and improve to 9-3 overall. It marks the sixth win over a Power Five opponent as the Tigers went 4-1 against SEC opposition.
Kendric Davis led Memphis with 23 points and a game-high nine assists, while going a career best 14-of-16 at the free throw line.
DeAndre Williams scored all 15 of his points in the second half after sitting much of the first period with foul trouble. He was 6-of-7 shooting with two steals and a pair of blocks. Johnathan Lawson showed up big, tying his career high with 10 points after going 3-of-3 from long range.
Despite hitting just 4-of-12 from long distance in the opening 20 minutes, the Tigers shot 53.1 percent from the floor overall after converting on 13-of-20 from inside the arc. With 11 points, Davis led a group of five Tigers that recorded six or more points in the half.
Memphis shot a season high 55.8 percent from the floor, going 29-of-52 on the night. Texas A&M finished the night 22-of-58 (37.9%). It was the sixth opponent Memphis has held to under 40 percent shooting in a game this season.
