Tigers Split Final Day of Blues City Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger softball team played in their final day of the Blues City Classic, earning a 4-3 win over Indiana State and suffering the 10-4 loss to UT-Martin.
Following today's games, Memphis moves to 7-12 overall.

How it happened:
- Memphis got on the board early in the game when Kendall Lee drove in Gracie Morton in the bottom of the first inning.
- Taylor Smrt got in on the fun when she hit a single up the middle that brought Alexis Dale and Gracie Morton around the bases to extend the Tiger's lead out to 3-0 in the bottom of the thind.
- Indiana State would get all three runs back in the top of the fourth inning after back-to-back extra base hits that tied the game at 3-3.
- The Tigers would get the walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh inning when Camryn Wineinger singled through the right side to bring Morton across the plate for the 4-3 win.
- Gracie Morton picked for her fifth multi-hit game of the season while Taylor Smrt notched her second of the year as they both recorded two hits.
- Mikayla Hoschak got the start against the Sycamores going 3.2 innings with two strikeouts while Kailey Hilderbrand got the win after 3.1 innings of work and just one hit allowed.
MEMPHIS: 4, UT-MARTIN: 10
How it happened:
- The Skyhawks controlled play from the start, collecting eight runs between the first and second innings to take the early lead.
- Gracie Morton would put the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the third inning when she scored off a UT-Martin error.
- Alexis Dale would add another run for Memphis in the third when Taylor Smrt drove her home off a left-center field to make it an 8-2 game.
- After UTM added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning, Memphis would get runs from Linsey Hargis and Morton to cut in to the Skyhawks lead, but it was not enough to come back from, and the Tigers suffered the 10-4 loss.
- Gracie Morton picked for her sixth multi-hit game of the season while going a perfect 4-4 from the plate against UT-Martin.
- Hallie Siems got the start against the Skyhawks while Zoey LeCompte, Drue Thomas and Kailey Hilderbrand all made appearances.
- The Tigers will play a single game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
- Memphis will host their second tournament of the month with the UofM Softball Tournament beginning on Thursday and running through Sunday. The Tigers will face-off against Central Arkansas, Southeastern Louisiana, Oklahoma State and South Dakota this weekend at the Tigers Softball Complex.
