LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Memphis cross country team was back in action on Saturday morning, running at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic at "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. The men's team finished 31st overall in the 8K race and the women's team finished 33rd in the 5K race.
Leading the way once again was Chloe Figgins for the women, finishing 44th overall (17:53.20) in a field of 325 runners. For the men, Vincent Chenier led the way for the third-straight meet with a 60th-place finish (24:37.60) in the 378-man field.
"We had a few good races, but at this level of competition we need all members of the team to bring their A-game," cross country coach Ken Frenette said. "Two to three runners not racing well definitely has an impact on team score. I believe we learned some important lessons today and can use those to make us a better team."
On the men's side, Robert Arnold (130th, 25:14.80), Robert Randall (225th, 25:51.70), Sammy Mohamed (246th, 25:58.30) and Alex Bobak (295th, 26:30.90) rounded out the top-five finishers behind Chenier.
Rounding out the top-five finishers for the women's team were Jalyssa Smith (180th, 18:57.6), Ann Marie Braese (183rd, 18:58.20), Ximena Lopez de Escalera (209th, 19:08.60) and Chablis Shreffler (212th, 19:09.90).
Up next, the Tigers will compete at the Crimson Cross Country Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on October 13.
