Memphis Falls to FIU in AAC Championship Semifinals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Tigers men's soccer falls to FIU in the semifinal round of the AAC Championships by a score of 3-1.
Memphis finishes its season with a 7-7-3 record, while FIU moves to 6-5-6 and will play Charlotte in the championship final on Sunday, Nov. 17 at noon.
After a scoreless first half, FIU would strike first with Memphis answering back quickly. A second half penalty kick scored by FIU would shift all momentum, with the Panthers adding a third goal in the final ten minutes.

KEY MOMENTS
- 53' – In the same fashion as the regular season matchup between these two teams, Eduardo Mustre opened the scoring with a well-placed shot that found the corner of the net.
- 54' – Only 39 seconds later, Anders Bordoy extended his possession before a low left-footed strike beat Nigel Van Haveren to tie the match at one goal apiece.
- 73' – Adam Yousfi committed a foul that was confirmed to be in the penalty box after review. Eduardo Mustre stepped up to the penalty slot and beat Filip Sabatti for his second goal of the match.
- 81' – FIU continued to hold possession in the final third and a João Domíngues cross found the feet of Michael Appiah. Appiah attempted a shot that caromed off the back of Ryan Ruguaru and found the back of the net.
- Bordoy's goal was his second of the season, as the sophomore finishes his 2024 campaign with five contributions (two goals, three assists).
- Sabatti recorded four saves in the loss, which was his best mark since an Oct. 12 match at Temple.
- After earning the Team Fair Play Award, Memphis was assessed its first two red cards of the season. Cory Pitlik received a booking for a second yellow card, and assistant coach Kevin Tello was assessed a red card for dissent. Brody Conley was also shown a yellow card in the opening minutes of the match.
- The lone yellow card for FIU was assessed to Driss Nasser.
