Memphis Drops Doubleheader to Florida Atlantic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped game one and two of its American Athletic Conference series against Florida Atlantic, 12-1 and 7-1, on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Softball Complex.
The Tigers (3-24, 0-8 AAC) got on the board with a solo home run from Kennedy Semien early in game one against the Owls (26-7, 7-1 AAC) but were unable to muster any more in the matinee matchup. Memphis put together a more competitive showing in game two of the double header, keeping the score within one run through the first four innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• FAU got on the board in the top of the first inning when Jesiana Mora singled to left field, advancing to second on the throw, allowing Kiley Channell to score unearned. The Owls added another run in the top of the frame as Megan Moll singled to the shortstop bringing in Kamryn Jackson unearned.
• Semien cut the lead in half as she fired off a shot over the left-center field wall, recording her first home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning.
• The Owls doubled the lead in the top of the second frame as Channell hit a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Cameryn Orland to reach home.
• FAU continued to add to its lead as Orland hit a RBI single bringing in Trinity Schlotterbeck in the top of the third inning. Channell tallied her second, third and fourth RBI as she doubled to the center field wall to make the score 7-1.
• Schlotterbeck added another run for the Owls when she hit a solo shot over the right field wall in the top of the fourth inning. Orland added an RBI single to shallow right field allowing Moll to come in for the Owls ninth run.
• The Tigers recorded their second hit of the game as Zoe Adebayo singled through the left side in the bottom of the fourth frame.
• The Owls continued to add to their lead as Holly Peluso reached home on a passed ball in the top of the fifth inning. Schlotterbeck notched her second home run of the game, sending a two-run shot over the center field wall.
NOTABLES
• Two Tigers recorded a hit in the game: Semien in the bottom of the first and Adebayo in the bottom of the fourth.
• Semien slugged her first home run of the season with a shot over the center field wall.
• Rylee Dugar got the start going 4.0 innings with three strikeouts. Abigail Morgan made an appearance in the circle coming in as relief in the top of the fifth inning. Morgan finished the game with an inning of work and one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• FAU started off scoring as Channell doubled to center field bringing in Presley Leebrick for the first run in the top of the first inning. The Owls added one more run as Channell reached home on a wild pitch.
• Khamiyah Brown recorded the Tigers' first hit of the game, singling through the left side in the bottom of the second frame, adding the Tigers' second baserunner. Memphis was unable to capitalize ending the inning scoreless.
• Arianna Cox-Cole added a hit to the Memphis stat line as she singled up the middle in the bottom of the third inning. Semien drew a walk in the next at-bat pushing Cox-Cole into scoring position. Adebayo hit into a double play closing the bottom of the frame.
• Memphis put up its first run of the game as Drue Thomas laced an RBI single to the center field wall bringing in Francesca Lumpp in the bottom of the fourth frame.
• The Owls added another run as Schlotterbeck reached on an error by the left fielder sending in Peluso in the top of the fifth inning. FAU added one more run as Becca Jones grounded out allowing Mora to score.
• FAU put up another run an Channell doubled to center field allowing Ky Hammonds to reach home in the top of the sixth frame. The Owls added two more runs before closing out the top of the inning.
NOTABLES
• Four Tigers recorded hits in the game: Marley Maness, Khamiyah Brown, Cox-Cole, and Thomas.
• Lumpp scored her third run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning.
• Taniyah Brown got the start going 4.2 innings with two strikeouts. Morgan came in as relief to close the top of the fifth inning. Morgan finished the game with 2.1 innings of work.
