Memphis Falls in Series Finale to Florida Atlantic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team fell in its series finale to Florida Atlantic 18-1 on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Softball Complex.
The Tigers (3-25, 0-9 AAC) struggled early in the first inning of play but found some momentum in the bottom of the fifth innings tallying three-straight hits, resulting in the lone Memphis run from Kelsie Adams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• FAU got on the board in the top of the first inning when Kamryn Jackson hit an RBI double to center field bringing in Presley Leebrick for the score. The Owls added two more in the next at-bat as Jesiana Mora fired off a two-RBI double to center field allowing Kiley Channell and Jackson to reach home. FAU added 10 more runs before closing the top of the frame.
• Kennedy Semien reached base after being hit by the pitch. Semien went on to steal second before being left stranded to close the bottom of the first inning.
• FAU added a run when Leebrick hit a sacrifice fly to left field sending Cameryn Orland in for the run in the top of the second inning.
• Memphis loaded the bases in the bottom of the third inning, drawing two walks from Drue Thomas and Semien and Zoe Adebayo was hit by a pitch, but was unable to push any runs across in the frame.
• LaNya Bates reached scoring position after stealing both second and third base, however the Tigers were unable to capitalize in the bottom of the fourth inning.
• FAU put up another run in the top of the fifth inning as Becca Jones singled to right field bringing in Jackson. The Owls added two more runs before closing the top of the frame.
• Adams tallied the Tigers first hit of the game, doubling to the center field wall in the bottom of the fifth inning. Khamiyah Brown added a hit of her own, singling through the right side.
• Adams scored the Tigers lone run in the bottom of the fifth frame when Semien laced an RBI single back up the middle.
NOTABLES
• Three Tigers recorded a hit in the game: Adams, Semien, and Khamiyah Brown.
• Abigail Morgan got the start going 0.1 innings. before Rylee Dugar came in as relief in the top of the first inning. Dugar went 0.2 innings recording one strikeout. Taniyah Brown entered the circle to start the second frame. Taniyah Brown went 4.0 innings and recorded two strikeouts.

• The Tigers will head on the road to take on AAC newcomer UTSA Thursday through Saturday, March 28-30 at Roadrunner Field.
