Tigers Fall to Cardinals In Bluff City Showdown

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis Volleyball team fell to Lamar on Day Two of the Bluff City Showdown.
The Tigers (4-4) fought hard but came up short against the Cardinals (5-3). Tabytha Toelke led the team with eight kills, while Tiffany Snook and Eleftheria Baxa followed behind with seven kills each. Jasmyn Tate also had a solid night recording six kills.
Abigail Schlueter had a game-high 23 digs while adding four assists and one service ace.
In the first set, Lamar pulled ahead to an early lead going up 8-3. Memphis used a 7-2 run to tie the set up at 10. The set continued in a contested battle, neither team having more than a two-point advantage. The Cardinals ended the set by scoring the last three points to win set one 26-24.
Lamar continued their momentum in the second set pulling ahead early 9-3. Memphis tried to make a push coming within three points but was unable to come back dropping the second set 25-19.
Memphis started the third set off hot going up 13-9 with kills from Tate, Snook, and Toelke. The Cardinals fought back with a 6-2 run to tie the set 17-17. Both sides kept the score close, however, Lamar pulled away at the very end winning 26-24.

The Tigers will close out the Bluff City Showdown tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. against Indiana State. The match can be viewed on ESPN+.
