Tigers Take Down Panthers for 3-1 Road Win

ATLANTA — Memphis men's soccer scored a pair of first-half goals that held over the full 90 minutes in a 3-1 win at Georgia State Sunday evening in a road battle with the Panthers at the GSU Soccer Complex.
The Tigers improved to 2-4-0 on the year with the win, while the Panthers dropped to 1-3-1.
"First and foremost, I am really happy for the guys as it's been a challenging start for us," Memphis head coach Richard Mulrooney said. "It was nice to get a lead to start the game and obviously hold onto it. And to see it out against a solid Georgia State team should build our confidence moving forward into our next match."

KEY MOMENTS
- 7' – Memphis made a run down the left sideline where a through ball was played into the corner for Anders Bordoy, who then crossed one into the box. From there, Lleyton Imparato headed the ball down and into the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage.
- 15' – After forcing a turnover inside the 18, Anthony DiFalco chased down the ball at the end line and flicked it over a defender and in front of the net where Luciano Galizzi headed a shot inside the left post for a 2-0 Tiger lead.
- 20' – The Tigers played a ball over the top of the defense and DiFalco nearly made it a 3-goal advantage from with a rocket from just inside the 18, but the keeper got enough on it to push it just past the far post.
- 23' – The Tigers were all over the box in the early going and had other opportunities, including a header from Gabriel Christensen from three yards that just sailed over the crossbar.
- 71' – Less than a minute after checking back into the match, Imparato took a low-driving corner that found its way through the box and to the leg of Logan Longo who knocked it into the net for a 3-0 lead.
- 82' – Georgia State converted off a Tiger turnover and scored from the right side of the box to get on the board and cut Memphis' lead to 3-1.
NOTABLES
- Memphis outshot Georgia State 15-12 overall and 8-3 in shots on goal.
- Goalkeeper Filip Sabatti earned his second victory of the year and recorded two saves.
- Five Tigers registered at least two shots in the win, led by Imparato's three.
- Imparato scored his team-leading third goal of the year and added his second assist. He leads the team with eight points this season.
- His goal was the quickest for Memphis since Longo scored in the 6' on Oct. 8, 2023 against Tulsa.
- Galizzi and Longo each earned their second goal in the win.
