Jan 24, 2025 | Women's Basketball
TULSA, Okla. – Memphis women's basketball returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 25, as they take on Tulsa at 2:00 p.m. in their second consecutive road contest.
The Tigers (4-13, 2-4 AAC) enjoyed their first mid-week break since the conference season began on New Year's Day. They most recently picked up their first road win of the season, defeating third-place Tulane, 68-65, in New Orleans behind 20 points and seven assists from senior DeeDee Hagemann.
At present, the Tigers are the only team in the conference to have a top-five contributor in points, rebounds and assists in conference play. Tilly Boler (16.9) ranks fourth in points per game, and Alasia Smith (11.1 rebounds) and Hagemann (6.2 assists) lead their respective categories.
Both Hagemann and Smith are nearing career milestones that could be achieved as early as Saturday in Oklahoma. Hagemann has 496 career assists and is looking to become one of 20 active players to reach the half-millenary mark. Smith is 10 rebounds away from 1,226, which would tie her for the 100th most of any Division-I women's player in history.
Tulsa (9-10, 3-4 AAC) returns home after falling to UTSA on Wednesday night in San Antonio. Their conference wins have come against East Carolina, Charlotte and FAU. They played Tennessee three days after Memphis hosted them in a 90-75 loss, dropping the contest, 102-61, in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Senior guard Delanie Crawford leads the Golden Hurricane with 17.7 points per game, including 18.3 through six conference games which is the second-highest figure in the league. Hadley Periman is averaging 8.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest. Last season's regular-season champions, Tulsa is coached by Angie Nelp, in her fourth year at the helm after a stint as Arizona State's associate head coach.
The Tigers will look to level the all-time series with Tulsa, trailing 14 wins to 13 dating back to 2004. Memphis fell to Tulsa in the conference opener last season, dropping a 71-62 contest in Memphis on Dec. 30, 2023.
