Tigers Maintain Momentum with Six Victories at Bob Teel Invitational
Jan 25, 2025 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Memphis track and field turned in another good showing in their second meet of the indoor season, winning six events at the Bob Teel Invitational at the University of Missouri.
The Tigers dominated the 200-meter races, as Kouto Anyika and Jadaja Baxter each posted personal bests to win the men's and women's contests, respectively, and Prior Ochonogor finished second on the men's side.
Anyika, Ochonogor and their relay teammates Courtland Noble and Bryson Wilson also won the 4x400-meter relay, and Kenny Guy capped off the runners with a personal-best 8:35.39 to win the men's 3K. Jazmyn James threw a career-best 15.49 meters to win the shot put, and Dajuan Montague's indoor-best 2.05-meter high jump was also the meet's best effort.
"Overall, I feel we had some very solid events. The 4x400 teams continue to be a bright spot, some of the jumpers finding more confidence and bigger performances," said head coach Kevin Robinson. "We did well capitalizing on the momentum from last weekend. This team has a lot of potential, but it is very early. We must stay focused, stay grounded, and continue to stay hungry."
In addition to the event victories, another three Tigers posted record days to total 12 PRs in Columbia. Vincent Chenier's 4:04.32 was his best-ever mile time and came just milliseconds from victory, finishing third. Jean Yves Thiemele Marco posted career highs in both the long jump and the high jump, and Meghan Porterfield also showed her versatility with PRs in the shot put and the weight throw, advancing to the finals in both, as did Natalie Albert.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Gabrielle Cross, Emma Holmes, Kameron Scille and Dejona Simpson finished second with a time of 3:40.92, half a second slower than the program record set last week. Joycelyn Crum (pole vault), Tianna Moseley (triple jump), Robert Randall (3K), Riley Simmons (weight throw) and Daryl Smith (triple jump) each placed second on the day.
Full meet results can be found at the top. The Tigers will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the PNC Lenny Lyles Invite at the University of Louisville, beginning Friday, Jan. 30.
