Tigers Prepare for Final Homestand
Feb 24, 2025 | Women's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball will play their final two home games of the 2024-25 season this week, beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 25, against Temple at 7:00 p.m. before Saturday's 2:00 p.m. game with Tulsa.
The Tigers (7-19, 5-10 AAC) went 1-1 during the previous week, defeating UAB by nine before losing at South Florida by 10. Currently placed 10th in the conference, they are one game behind the three-way tie for seventh; with three games left, they are two games safe inside the top 11 (receive a first-round bye) and five games behind the top four (receive first and second-round byes).
Game One: Temple
The Owls (16-10, 10-5 AAC) are amid a three-game winning streak and currently seeded fourth in the conference, an important spot for the double bye. They picked up a huge win at Tulane on February 22 to jump them in the standings and will close out the season against Rice and Charlotte following their trip to Memphis.
The Tigers surged back into the game using a big third quarter in Philadelphia on February 5, but they ultimately fell, 74-66, in what was an 11 a.m. ET tip. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak against the Owls and put the all-time series record at 13 wins to six in favor of Temple.
Diane Richardson is in her third season at the helm of Temple. In 2023-24, they held a three-way tie at the top of the regular season standings behind a 13-5 conference record. Senior guard Tiarra East leads the team in scoring with 13.2 points per game, including 14.5 in conference play. The Owls lead the AAC in turnovers forced per conference game (19.2); Memphis has the fourth-fewest offensive turnovers (15.4).
Game Two: Tulsa
Saturday will be another chance for Memphis to avenge a road loss from earlier in the year; after being tied through three quarters in Oklahoma, Tulsa pulled away in the fourth quarter to win, 64-57. Tilly Boler had a game-high 19 points, but the Tigers shot just 4-for-17 from three-point range.
Seniors Layken Cox, Quinzia Fulmore, DeeDee Hagemann and Hannah Riddick will be honored pre-game as part of Senior Day festivities. Memphis women's basketball alumnae Tamika Whitmore will have her jersey retired at halftime.
Tulsa (14-13, 8-7 AAC) are two games behind Temple for the final double-bye spot; they will host South Florida on Wednesday before traveling to Wichita State on March 4. After two consecutive losses, they bounced back with wins over Tulane and UAB in overtime. They are second in steals per conference game (9.73), second in assists (15.4) and third in three-point percentage (34.0%).
Senior guard Delanie Crawford leads the Golden Hurricane with 17.3 points per game, the second-highest figure in the league. Hadley Periman is averaging 8.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest. Last season's regular-season champions, Tulsa is coached by Angie Nelp, in her fourth year at the helm after a stint as Arizona State's associate head coach.
