Tigers Take Down Rice to Advance to American Athletic Conference Championship Match

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's tennis team secured its spot in the American Athletic Conference Championship match after collecting a 4-2 win over Rice Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers got a big break early in the match after taking the doubles point following wins from Sofia Mykhailets/Alyssa Richterand Alice Amendola/Clemence Thouard.
Amendola took the first singles point on court five with a 6-3, 6-0 decision before Rice came back to take courts four and six to tie the match. Mykhailets battled in the two slot, coming away with 6-4, 6-3 win to take the lead back.
Leonie Moeller once again got match point for Memphis on court one when she downed her opponent 6-2, 6-3.
The Tigers will take on the winner of Florida Atlantic/Tulsa tomorrow afternoon at Leftwich Tennis Center. This will be the third championship match Memphis has appeared in the last four seasons. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
Memphis (#6) is the lowest seeded team to compete in the championship match since South Florida (#7) won in 2017.
