Tigers Set to Host Arkansas State at FedExPark

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set to host Arkansas State at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field on Tuesday night at 6:05 p.m. for the second of two midweek matchups between the two programs this season.
The game can be streamed live on ESPN+ with Jeff Brightwell and Greg Gaston Sr. on the call.
FedExPark will play host to the 105thall-time meeting between the two programs. Memphis leads the all-time series, 68-36, including wins in nine of the previous 12 contests. Most recently, the Red Wolves defeated the Tigers, 4-2, in Jonesboro back on March 11.
Memphis (16-23, 4-11 AAC) is coming off a 13-2 run-rule win over Rice on Saturday after the Owls took the first two games of the series from the Tigers. Shane Cox had a red-hot week at the plate for the Tigers, batting .467 (7-for-15) with a pair of home runs, a double and six RBI for the week.
Chase Nixon led the team with eight hits last week, including a home run, triple and a pair of doubles to go with five RBI. Daniel Perez (.429 AVG.) and Justin Fogel (.417 AVG.) also had strong weeks offensively.
Arkansas State (18-21, 8-10 SBC) will enter Tuesday after falling in a Sun Belt series, two games to one, at Georgia Southern over the weekend. The Red Wolves are led offensively by Ashton Quiller (.307 AVG. / 5 3B / 18 RBI / 11 SB), Wil French (.298 AVG. / 11 2B / 19 RBI) and Cross Jumper (.295 AVG. / 2 HR / 28 RBI).
The Tigers will go with RHP Seth Cox (1-2, 5.82 ERA) for his third-consecutive midweek start on the mound. A week ago, Cox threw a career-high four innings at Central Arkansas to earn his first collegiate win for the Tigers in a 13-3 run-rule victory. Arkansas State will counter with RHP Jack Nelson (1-1, 33.0 IP, 2.45 ERA) on the mound for his sixth start and 13th appearance of the season.
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 36 through the season's first 39 games and rank No. 9 nationally in that category.
Tiger catcher Jonah Sutton is T-No. 11 nationally in runners thrown out from behind the plate (15) and is now 15-of-32 (47%) from behind the dish. As a team, Memphis has thrown out 45 percent of runners stealing on the season (19-of-42) as Justin Fogel is 4-for-10 on the year.
The Memphis pitching staff has been another highlight through the first half of the season, combining for a 4.79 ERA (324.2 IP) to rank fourth in The American and 61st nationally. The Tiger bullpen has accounted for 173.2 of those innings and has given up 85 earned runs for a bullpen ERA of 4.40.
