Memphis Draws with Lipscomb in Opening Match of Season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Memphis (0-0-1) men's soccer opened its season with a 1-1 draw against Lipscomb (0-0-1) Thursday night at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
After a scoreless first half, Memphis was able to take a lead to begin the second before Lipscomb drew the match level in the 77th minute and that score held through the final whistle.
KEY MOMENTS
Memphis returns home for its home opener on Sunday, Aug. 24 against Belmont (1-0-0) at 5:00 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+ as part of a doubleheader matchday with Memphis women's soccer.

KEY MOMENTS
- 31' – After both teams split chances in the early stages, Lipscomb's Josiah Green had a clear chance on the right wing before Filip Sabatti came out from his crease and recorded the save.
- 47' – Right at the beginning of the second half, Memphis earned a corner kick. Anthony DiFalco delivered a cross into the box that fell in a crowd before Fletcher Hedge got a cleat to it for the first goal of the match.
- 63-65' – On their debuts, freshmen Miller Lashlee and Ignacio Escamilla had back-to-back chances that were stopped by the opposing goalkeeper.
- 77' – After a ball on the box was deflected by Levi Jones of Lipscomb, Diego Ramirez scored the equalizer for the Bisons.
- 13 players (Fletcher Hedge, Eben McIntyre, Saad Chaouki, Anthony Grudko, Shaiyon Johnson, Denis O. John, Carson Banham, Aidan Antcliff, Ignacio Escamilla, Joshua Owens, Michael Holliday, Ruadhan Feeney) made their debut for Memphis in the contest.
- Dino Stavros and Filip Sabatti were the only Memphis players to play a full 90 minutes in the match.
- Hedge's goal was his first as a Tiger and the ninth of his collegiate career.
- DiFalco recorded his first assist of the season. He now has two in his Memphis career and four including his time spent at Duquesne.
- Sabatti registered five saves in the contest, tying his career high that he reached three times during the 2024 season.
- A pair of freshmen, Carson Banham and Miller Lashlee, led the Tigers with two shots each.
- Josiah Green of Lipscomb led all participants with three total shots and two shots on goal.
- A total of four cards were issued during the course of the match.
- For Memphis, Anthony DiFalco and Ryan Ruguaru were assessed yellow cards.
- Luis Toledo and Caleb Hylton were assessed yellow cards for the Bisons.
