DENTON, Texas – Memphis women's basketball is back on the road for a quick turnaround at North Texas, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13.
The Tigers (7-10, 1-3 American) split a pair of home games last week, beating Florida Atlantic, 74-66, before falling to South Florida, 90-81. Daejah Richmond was named a weekly honorable mention by the conference on Monday behind weekly averages of 23.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.5 steals on 62.1% shooting from the field and 83.3% from the foul line.
North Texas (9-7, 3-1 American) has won two consecutive conference games since falling to South Florida in Tampa on January 3. They handled East Carolina at home before squeaking by Tulane in New Orleans this past Saturday.
Memphis is searching for its first-ever win over the Mean Green. Since joining the American in 2023, UNT has beaten the Tigers in all three meetings, a one-point victory in Memphis and a 97-57 win in the return game. These teams matched up once prior, in the consolation game of the John Ascuaga's Nugget-Nevada Bell Classic in November 2001.
Ranking 11th nationally in offensive rebounds per game (16.9), the Mean Green win the rebounding margin by an average of 7.9 boards per game. Leading the way on that front is NAIA All-American transfer Megan Nestor, who ranks third in the country with 11.9 rebounds per game. Earlier this year, she posted the third 30-point, 30-renound game since 1981. UTSA transfer Aysia Proctor leads the team with 13.9 points per game.
Jason Burton leads the North Texas program in his third season following 10 years at Texas A&M-Commerce, where he had a 194-99 record. Last season, they finished 15-3, earning the No. 2 seed before falling to eventual champion South Florida in the tournament semifinals.
