MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's soccer program looks to secure a position in the American Conference Championships with a Friday night matchup at South Florida.
Kickoff for the match is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (6-2-5, 1-0-4 American) comes into the match unbeaten in conference play, most recently salvaging a 1-1 draw with UAB on a 90th-minute goal by Renan Syrio.
Syrio, recently named a weekly honorable mention by the American, leads the team with seven goals and 17 points on the year. He is one of eight players with multiple goals, with Carson Banham in second with four and Miller Lashlee and Saad Chaouki next with three goals each. Memphis' distribution is also a key piece of this season as four players have at least three assists, led by Dino Stavros' five. Stavros is also the only Tiger to have started every match so far this season.
In Memphis' most recent match, defender Ethan Cook became the first Tiger to eclipse 1,000 minutes on the year. The same combination of Cook, Marko Stajnko and Jin Tokishi have been starting on the back line recently.
In net, Mathias Christensen has gone unbeaten in the last four matches, making two saves in Memphis' draw against UAB to give him 27 on the year. The Dane holds a 1.5 goals-against-average with a .692 save percentage with three games remaining in the regular season.
SCOUTING THE BULLS
South Florida (1-10-3, 0-4-2 American) enters on a 12-match winless streak, with its most recent victory coming against West Florida on Aug. 23. The Bulls have drawn their last two matches by scores of 2-2 and 3-3 against Jacksonville and Temple, respectively.
In the first season of the second tenure under George Kiefer after he returned from Grand Canyon, the Bulls have been outscored 15-33 with Tyler Richardson leading scoring four of those goals. Jakob Auby and Serigne Diallo each have three goals accounted for in that total. Richardson is no stranger to producing against the Tigers, scoring in a 1-0 result in 2024 and adding an assist in last season's match. Auby, a sophomore from Norway, featured for 58 minutes in last season's match against the Tigers in Memphis.
Three goalkeepers have featured in net for South Florida this season, with a majority of the minutes going to true freshman Alexis Martin. The Montreal, Quebec, Canada native has started in eight matches, making 34 saves and holding a 2.13 goals-against-average. As a team, the Bulls carry a 2.36 goals-against-average with a .629 save percentage.
