MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's soccer program welcomes its alumni back for a Saturday night matchup against UAB.
Kickoff for the match is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (6-2-4, 1-0-3 American) is coming off its first American Conference win of the year, defeating Temple 3-0 in a downpour of rain last Sunday.
After scoring three times during the week and adding an assist, forward Renan Syrio was named the American Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The junior now has a team-best six goals and 15 points, sitting third on the team with three assists. A pair of midfielders were also involved on the scoresheet against Temple, with Saad Chaouki scoring directly from a free kick for his third of the year, along with Henrique Cruz sending a powerful shot to the top-right corner for the Tigers' first goal and his second of the campaign.
The defense was also on the scoresheet with Dino Stavros regaining the team lead with his fifth assist on the year, now totaling seven points after not recording a single point in his first three seasons. Stavros is also the only Tiger to have started all 12 matches this season. Defenders Ethan Cook, Marko Stajnko and Junior Saint Juste all sit with over 900 minutes played on the year, led by Cook's 992 of a possible 1,080 minutes played this year.
In net, Mathias Christensen is on a three-match unbeaten streak and picked up his second-straight win with a clean sheet against Temple. On the year, the Danish goalkeeper has logged 25 saves, carrying a 1.57 goals-against-average and a .694 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE BLAZERS
UAB (4-3-4, 1-1-2 American) enters the weekend after three straight ties, with two coming in conference play. Most recently the Blazers scored two goals in the second half to finish in a draw with FIU last Sunday.
The Blazers have averaged over a goal a game, with a big piece of that coming in the form of Tony Kim. Kim, a former American Conference second-teamer, has six goals, including four game-winners. Others with multiple goals on the year are Sam Roberson and both Lucas Rizzo and Lucas Nordin. Rizzo and Nordin each have three, with Rizzo adding a pair of assists, while Roberson has two.
UAB also had a pair of players named to preseason all-conference lists in Ole Jessen, who has a goal and two assists in nine matches played, along with Humphrey Doh, the Preseason Co-Offensive Player of the Year in the American, who has played just 212 minutes of a possible 990 this season.
All 990 minutes in goal have been played by Ethan Schulz. The freshman from Mouans-Sartoux, France has conceded just 15 times this year, holding a 1.36 goals-against-average with 36 saves and two clean sheets.
