Memphis Travels East for Sunday Matchup with Temple
Oct 09, 2026 | Men's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's soccer program continues conference play on the road Sunday at Temple in search of its first American Conference win of the year.
Kickoff for the match is set for noon CT and the competition will be broadcast on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (5-2-4, 0-0-3 American) recently snapped a five-match winless streak with a 4-3 win over Lipscomb on Tuesday. The Tigers went into the half level at two goals apiece before Memphis potted a pair in the opening 15 minutes of the second half.
After a two-goal, one-assist outing against Lipscomb, Renan Syrio now leads the team in goals and points with five and 13, respectively, while now having three assists. Syrio was one of two Tigers to reach 10 points on the season in the Lipscomb match, with Miller Lashlee finishing the night with 10 points from three goals and four assists in 2026. Midfielder Keanan Bader had a multi-point outing against the Bisons on Tuesday, logging a goal and an assist in the win.
Memphis' defense also joined in on the action in the win with Ethan Cook, the only Tiger with at least 900 minutes played this season, scoring Memphis' fourth goal of the match. He, Junior Saint Juste and Marko Stajnko have all featured for over 800 minutes this season for the Tigers.
Snow College transfer Mathias Christensen picked up his first win of the year carrying .686 save percentage to a 1-1-4 record in his first season at the Division I level.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
Temple (2-7-2, 1-3-0 American) enters the match with wins in its last two matches against Florida Atlantic and Lafayette.
A common factor in those wins was the combination of Carlos Rojas and Lukas Stefaner. Rojas, a former UCF and Daytona State College transfer, has registered one of the highest shot totals in the American this season. The 6'6 native of Valencia, Venezuela has 27 shots this year, finding the back of the net five times. Stefaner, a sophomore from Austria, has four assists on the season, with three of them coming on Rojas goals.
In net, Gavin Atkinson has been put under more pressure than almost any other goalkeeper in the country, and the most in the American. The sophomore has 48 saves on the season, facing an average of 13 shots per match this year. Temple's 5.55 saves per game is the seventh-most in the country and the most in the conference this season.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST TEMPLE
Memphis carries a 7-6-3 record against the Owls, with all but the first matchup in the series coming with head coach Richard Mulrooney leading the Tigers. Memphis has gone without a loss in its last six matches against Temple, going 5-0-1 since 2021.
Last season, Tigers Saad Chaouki and Miller Lashlee scored a pair of goals each in a 4-2 home win over the Owls.
