Memphis Faces Physical Test at North Texas
Feb 11, 2026 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis heads west for a pivotal American Conference road test Thursday night, squaring off with North Texas at 8 p.m. on ESPN2 inside the Super Pit. The Tigers arrive in Denton riding a surge of momentum, stringing together a pair of double-digit wins and showing signs of a group that is settling into its roles down the stretch of league play.
Memphis (12-11, 7-4 American) has leaned on its depth and defensive activity in recent outings, with guards Dug McDaniel and Sincere Parker providing consistent scoring options while big man Aaron Bradshaw has given the Tigers a force on the interior. The Tigers have begun to share the ball more effectively as well, a key factor against a North Texas team that thrives on forcing turnovers and grinding games into half-court battles.
The Mean Green are coming off a convincing 81-58 road win at UTSA and will look to flip the script from the first meeting, when Memphis controlled the tempo in a 57-48 victory in the conference opener on Dec. 31 inside FedExForum. North Texas typically prefers a slower, more physical style, with much of its scoring running through guards Je'Shawn Stevenson and David Terrell Jr., who combine for nearly 40 percent of the team's offense.
Thursday's matchup shapes up as a clash of styles: Memphis looking to keep the pace lively and lean on its defensive pressure, while North Texas tries to dictate terms in the half court and protect its home floor. For the Tigers, it's another opportunity to build momentum and solidify their standing as the conference race tightens entering the final stretch.

BY THE NUMBERS
- 1st: Aaron Bradshaw is shooting 56.6 percent from the field and 77.0 percent at the free-throw line this season. He is the only American Conference player meeting those marks (minimum 100 FGA). In league play he's been even better, averaging a conference high 62.2 percent clip from the floor.

- 6: Memphis had six different players score in double figures against Charlotte on Sunday, its second game this season with that many players scoring 10+ points. They are one of four American Conference teams with multiple such games (Florida Atlantic, Tulsa, UAB).
- 7: The win over Charlotte was Memphis' seventh game this season with at least 10 steals and five blocks. That is the most by any American Conference team in 2025-26, and only five DI teams have more such games this season.
- 9.5: Over the last two games for the Tigers, Thierno Sylla is averaging 9.5 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds while shooting 57.1 percent overall. Prior to those two games, he was averaging just 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.5 minutes.

- The Mean Green are under the leadership of new head coach Daniyal Robinson who took over the program after leading Cleveland State to three straight 20-win seasons from 2022-25.
- North Texas enters the matchup at 13-11 overall and 4-7 in American Conference play, coming off an 81-58 road win at UTSA that snapped a recent skid.

- UNT averages a league leading 9.9 steals per game, that ranks 7th in the nation.
- The Mean Green's defense has had at least 10 steals in nine of its last 13 games, while five starters combine to average 7.15 steals per game.
- Je'Shawn Stevenson leads UNT with 17.0 points per game while also averaging 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 2.0 assists.
