Morse Leads Men's Soccer In 2-0 Shutout Victory Over UConn

Tigers celebrate Senior Day with seventh shutout of the year
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day in style with a 2-0 shutout victory over UConn Saturday night. Freshman Jackson Morse scored both goals in the victory as the Tigers snapped a three-match losing skid.

Memphis improves to 8-7-1 overall and 2-3-1 in American Athletic Conference play. The Tigers have now evened the series at 2-2 against UConn including wins in the last two meetings.

The two squads were scoreless for most of the first half until Morse put the Tigers on the board in the 40th minute. Alec Velez started the play with a pass up the middle to Hector Cantele. Cantele then took a one-touch right to Morse to finish the shot in the upper right 90.

At the half, Memphis held a 9-5 shot advantage over the visiting Huskies.

UConn came out firing in the second half, but the Tiger defense held tough to keep the Huskies from connecting.

In the 62nd minute, Morse scored again, this time after David Zalzman started the play with a corner kick. After the ball bounced around in the box, Jordan Klipsch connected with a pass to Morse. Morse proceeded to finish to the right corner to put the Tigers up by two scores.

The Huskies continued to pressure the Tigers as UConn finished the match outshooting Memphis, 13-12. Memphis goalkeeper Jake Leeker made multiple key stops and finished the night with five total saves.

Memphis has one more match on the regular season schedule in Tulsa next weekend. The Tigers will travel to Oklahoma to take on the Golden Hurricane on Friday, Nov. 4. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live stats for the match can be found on www.gotigersgo.com.
