Missouri Road Trip This Weekend For Men’s Soccer

Memphis will play UMKC and Missouri State this weekend
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The University of Memphis men's soccer team continues its five-match road trip with contests against UMKC and Missouri State this weekend. The Tigers first play UMKC at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening, followed by their bout against Missouri State on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Sunday's match against Missouri State will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
MATCH INFORMATION:
The men's squad has started the 2017 season with an 0-3-1 record after dropping its most recent matches against Kentucky and at SIUE. In the match against Kentucky, goalkeeper Jake Leeker saved six shots, allowing the only goal of the match by way of a penalty kick in the 62nd minute of play.
Against SIUE, the Tigers provided themselves with opportunities throughout the match, especially in the second half. After taking a 1-0 lead into the half, SIUE tacked on a second goal when the Tigers played numbers up in hopes of equalizing the match. Memphis has narrowly outshot its opponents 43 to 42 on the season and a total of 17 different players have started for head coach Richard Mulrooney.
UMKC
Helmed by Rick Benben, who enters his 20th season, the Kangaroos wrap up a three-match home stand against the Tigers. UMKC boasts a 2-0-1 record in the young season, defeating opponents Central Arkansas and Northwestern before coming to a draw against Rutgers.
The Kangaroos are led by senior forward Eric McWoods, who has two goals and two assists through the first three games of the season. Three other UMKC players have also registered goals in 2017 in Antoine Precheur, Alvaro Hernando, and Diego Serfaty. Hernando's and Serfaty's goals were both game-winners. Goalkeeper Filippo Errico, while playing every minute of game time, has saved all 14 shots sent his way this season, keeping all three opponents scoreless.
Memphis last played UMKC in 2013, winning 1-0. That 2013 victory evened the all-time series for the two teams, with each team now having won two games.
Missouri State
The Bears come into this match against Memphis with a 1-1-1 record, with a loss at Air Force, a win against Tulsa, and a tie at UAB. Two players have scored so far in 2017, Harry Lewis and Jordy Robins, who both scored in the home victory against Tulsa.
The loss at Air Force came via the game-winning goal in the 37th minute. Missouri State has made a habit of being outshot this season, with opponents holding a 48 to 22 advantage in shot count. Nevertheless, Missouri State has only allowed the one goal against Air Force.
Goalkeeper Liam Priestley has racked up 16 saves, holding a save percentage of .941. He has also recorded two clean sheets this season, shutting out Tulsa and UAB. Historically, Memphis has never beaten Missouri State on the road, having lost three and tied one game against the Bears in Springfield.
