The Memphis Tigers
Memphis, now on a five-game win streak, plays host after an overtime win on the road against UConn. After a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation, the Tigers were able to clinch the victory in extras as Michael Blanke found Alexandros Ierides on the doorstep for the winning goal. The goal was Ierides' third of the year and the assist was Blanke's first collegiate point.
Terrific in its own right, the defense played exceptionally well against UConn, allowing only one shot on goal in the entire 95 minutes. Defender Ben Roberts led the defense to its third shutout of the year, while holding a fourth opponent to one or fewer shots on goal.
For their efforts against UConn, Roberts was named the AAC's Defensive Player of the Week, Blanke was awarded Rookie of the Week, while Ierides earned an Honor Roll nod.
On the season, Memphis is led in scoring by Sam Ashton, who has eight goals and two assists through nine matches. His 18 points are tied for fourth in the conference and rank 17th in the country.
In goal, Parker Lackland recorded his third shutout of the year against UConn. The sophomore saved the only shot on goal from the Huskies, lowering his goals against average to 1.19.
A Look at the Blazers
UAB visits Memphis after a 0-6 loss at the hands of Marshall, extending its losing streak to four matches.
The leading scorer for UAB is Blake White, who has four goals on the year. He scored a brace against Mercer, starting a three-game streak of scoring at least one goal per match. Three other Blazers have registered goals this season, including two from Grayson Dupont.
Goalkeeping has been split between two players this year, with minutes being logged by both Julian Mehl and Seth Torman. Torman, who has played every second of five matches, has allowed nine goals on the year and recorded 20 saves. He was between the pipes when UAB logged its lone win of the season.
