Memphis Sweeps Illinois State to Complete Undefeated Weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers improved to 6-1 at home this season and 7-3 overall when they collected a sweep over the Redbird of Illinois State (25-19, 25-21, 25-14).
After falling to a 9-5 deficit early in the first set, the Tigers roared back with a 10-0 run against the redbirds. Senior Gigi Crescenzo led the way for Memphis with three kills, three digs and three service aces in the first set 25-19 win.
The Red Birds and Tigers kept the second set close. With the teams tied at 14 and momentum in Illinois States favor, Memphis was forced to call a timeout. The Tigers would regroup and go on a 6-0 scoring run forcing Illinois State's hand. Memphis would go up 2-0 in the match winning the second frame 25-21.
Memphis was able to pull away in the third set, finishing the match outscoring the Red Birds 16-7. Tate would seal the deal with a match-ending service ace that gave Memphis their second sweep of the season.
The Tigers put down 38 kills today while holding Illinois State to a .009 hitting percentage.
