Tigers to Close Out Regular Season at Home Against South Florida

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's soccer team will play its final regular season match at home against South Florida on Sunday, Nov. 2. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+ and is set for a 7 p.m. kick.  
 
POSTSEASON IMPLICATIONS
Regardless of other results throughout the conference, Memphis must earn a result against South Florida to keep its hopes alive of making the American Conference Tournament. The Tigers have a chance at clinching either the fifth or sixth seed, which is dependent on this Sunday's match, along with two other conference matches involving Tulsa and Missouri State.
 
There are 10 possible clinching scenarios that all are based on Memphis earning a win or draw, with five seeing the Tigers as the fifth seed and five as the sixth seed. Other matches on Sunday that will play a part in determining Memphis' fate are Missouri State hosting Charlotte and Tulsa traveling to Florida Atlantic.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (4-7-3, 3-4-0 American) comes into the match after a bye during the midweek conference matches, most recently falling 1-0 on the road against Missouri State.
 
Miller Lashlee continues to average one goal every 54 minutes that he is on the field, standing with five goals on the season that all came against American Conference opponents. His five goals are tied with Saad Chaouki for the team lead, and the pair are tied for sixth in the American in goals in all competitions. Lashlee still leads all players in conference goals this season with five.
 
Despite being held off the scoresheet in the past six matches, Luciano Galizzi still sits atop the assists leaderboard in conference play with four in American matches and is 35th in the NCAA with six overall assists on the year. Second on the team and 75th in the nation with five assists this season is Eben McIntyre. McIntyre's nine points this season are third on the team behind the two leading goalscorers, but he is tied with Chaouki for the team lead in game-winning goals with two.
 
Goalkeeper Filip Sabatti sits at 4-5-2 on the season with 34 saves, including two that kept the Tigers within striking distance at Missouri State. Sabatti is set for his 12th start of the year, looking for his second shutout of his senior campaign.
SCOUTING THE BULLS
South Florida (8-2-5, 4-2-1 American) is coming off a 4-3 loss to Florida Atlantic on Wednesday in its home finale. A late goal in the final 15 seconds of the match gave the Owls the victory and a total of three goals came from penalties.
 
Having gone unbeaten in their first 12 matches, the Bulls boast a strong attack and have held consistency with 10 players starting at least 11 of their matches this season. Fabio Bozesan leads the South Florida attack with seven goals this season, a mark that is second in the American and 38th in the NCAA. The Bulls also have a pair of players with four goals on the season in Joao Belmudes and Brandon Nyagurungo. Both scored in Wednesday's match, with Belmudes recording a brace.
 
The South Florida defense features a young pairing of Nicolas Pierantonio and Marcelo Mondragon. Both have eclipsed 1,000 minutes played on the season and Pierantonio, a freshman from Canada, has scored three goals and is a two-time American Conference Freshman of the Week. Mondragon has one assist on the year and has helped lead the Bulls to two clean sheets on the year.
 
In goal, former Toronto FC Academy and Syracuse Orange goalkeeper Jahiem Wickham has played well in his first season at South Florida after three with the Orange. He holds an 8-2-5 record, having played every minute in net this season, and is a three-time American Conference Goalkeeper of the Week.

The Tigers trail 7-21-5 in the all-time series but have not lost to South Florida at home since March 2021. Memphis' 2-0-1 record at home over the past five seasons includes an American Conference quarterfinal victory during the 2023 season.
