Aug 30, 2025 | Men's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis (1-1-1) men's soccer travels to the Hoosier State for a nonconference match against the Evansville (0-1-2) Aces on Sunday. The contest is set for a 6:00 p.m. kick and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Both programs share a common opponent in the early stages of the season in Mercer. Memphis recently earned a 2-0 win over the Bears, while Evansville played Mercer to a 1-1 draw.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (1-1-1) comes into the weekend match after earning its first victory of the season on senior day against the Mercer Bears. Eben McIntyre and Saad Chaouki registered their first goals as Tigers in the win, with Adam Aboohamidi recording his first goal contribution at Memphis with an assist.
Through the first three matches of the season, defense and stability have been paramount to the Tigers. 17 Tigers have logged at least 100 minutes played this season, with outfield players being led by Saad Chaouki with 246 minutes played. Chaouki is also one of four Memphis players to start all three matches.
Filip Sabatti recorded his first clean sheet of the season against Mercer, recording one save on the Bears' only shot on target. His save percentage has improved to .750 and he has reduced his goals-against-average to 1.00.
Memphis has taken a more aggressive approach this season, currently outpacing its opponents in total shots, 36-to-29, and corner kicks, 19-to-10. That aggressive approach has also led to six yellow cards on the young season, with the Tigers committing 10 more fouls than their opponents (36-to-26).
SCOUTING THE ACES
Evansville (0-1-2) enters the contest winless on the season, most recently falling to No. 15 North Carolina by a score of 2-0. The Aces earned consecutive 1-1 draws against Bellarmine and Mercer to begin their season.
The Aces have only scored two goals this season from contrasting athletes, as Devin Shepherd, a true freshman scored in Evansville's draw against Mercer. Tancredi Fadda, a senior from Monza, Italy, was responsible for Evansville's first goal of the season against Bellarmine.
Evansville is looking for production after losing a combined total of 20 goals from Nacho Diaz Barragan, Samuel Owusu, Kai Phillip and Jacob Fedrizzi a season ago. The 2024 season saw Evansville crowned champions of the Missouri Valley Conference, culminating in an NCAA Tournament appearance.
Goalkeeper Michal Mroz has played all 270 minutes in net for the Aces this season and currently holds a .429 save percentage and a goals-against-average of 1.33. Of the seven shots-on-goal that Mroz has faced, four have found the back of the net. Mroz was also named a Preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference selection.
THE SERIES WITH EVANSVILLE
This will be the 12th all-time meeting between the Tigers and Aces, with the series being heavily in favor of Evansville. Memphis is currently 3-7-1 in the series and has dropped the last two matchups.
The two programs met in 2024 for the first time since 2011, with Evansville securing a 3-0 win with two goals by Nacho Diaz Barragan and one by Nacho Diaz-Caneja. Diaz-Caneja, now a senior, is set for his second match against Memphis in as many seasons.
