Tigers Travel to Greenville for Matchup Against Preseason No. 3 Furman Side

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's soccer team is set for its second-ever matchup against the Furman Paladins at 5 p.m. CT on Saturday, Sept. 12.
The match will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Colin Calvert and Jack Little on the call.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (4-1-0) is off to its best start since 2023 (4-0-1 through five matches), a season where the Tigers won their first NCAA Tournament game in program history, most recently overcoming a halftime deficit to edge out a 3-1 win over UNC Asheville.
The Tiger attack has featured a multitude of players on the scoresheet, with a trio tied at the top. Forwards Miller Lashlee, Renan Syrio and Carson Banham all sit at three goals on the year, with Lashlee and Syrio ahead in the points race with eight each. A key factor of Memphis' success has been on the buildup, as 12 of Memphis' 13 goals on the year have been assisted. Lashlee's three-goal, two-assist week earned him an American Conference Weekly Honorable Mention, while defender Dino Stavros logged three assists, including the first of his career, en route to being named American Conference Defensive Player of the Year
Memphis' defense has been key to its early success, utilizing the same back line and holding midfielder in every match this season, anchored by Junior Saint Juste, Henrique Cruz, Ethan Cook and Marko Stajnko.
Noah Kasin picked up a weekly honorable mention as well after a pair of wins and five saves in wins over Butler and UNC Asheville, surpassing 100 in his career.
SCOUTING THE PALADINS
After beginning the season as the No. 3 team according to United Soccer Coaches, Furman (2-1-3) has earned five results, with wins coming against then No. 19 Duke and most recently against Gardner-Webb.
The key part of the Paladins' production has come from midfielder Diego Hernandez, who was one of two representatives from Furman (Braden Dunham) on the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List. The senior has three goals to lead the team coming in each of Furman's first three matches. Outside of Hernandez, six different Paladins have a goal this season.
Dunham has also impressed in his sophomore campaign as the only Furman outfield player to have played every minute this season after being the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, along with All-SoCon First Team, United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Second Team and TopDrawerSoccer Freshman Best XI First Team (No. 2 freshman in 2025).
Two goalkeepers have featured for the Paladins, with Aaron Salinas starting in five of six. The senior missed last season due to injury after being named the SoCon Goalkeeper of the Year in 2024. So far this season, he carries a 1.69 goals-against-average and a 63.6 save percentage, earning results in all but one match this season.
The other goalkeeper to feature was the 2025 SoCon Goalkeeper of the Year, Ivan Horvat, who conceded three goals, taking no result against Clemson and earning a draw against Davidson.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST FURMAN
Saturday's road match is just the second overall contest between Memphis and Furman, with the only prior meeting in 2012 being a 2-2 draw in Greenville, S.C.
