MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis' Kelsea Bivins and Hannah Flowers had double-double performances to lead the Tigers to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Louisiana Monroe in the first match of the 2018 Tiger Invitational Friday.
The Tigers won the match by scores of 25-17, 20-25, 18-25, 25-20 and 15-12. With the win, Memphis improves to 4-5. The Warhawks fall to 2-6.
For Bivins, it was her fifth career double-double (19 kills/12 digs) and her first in 2018. It was Flowers' third career double-double (18 kills/12 digs) and her third in the last five matches.
Memphis continues play in the Tiger Invitational Friday evening. The Tigers face Tennessee Tech at 7 p.m. (CT) at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Admission is free.
Head coach Sean Burdette comments
"Louisiana Monroe came out and plugged away. They did what we thought they were going to do. We had a balanced attack early, and then we went to our outsides too much. We have to continue to work our middles that are known to score for us. We had a great balance on offense in terms of hitting .250 today. We did a good job of digging late, and that was one of our keys. We got some digs-to-transition swings and got some kills off of those."
