Tigers Host UTSA Before Traveling to Tulane

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball will begin a challenging week of games on Wednesday, Jan. 15, hosting UTSA at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to the Big Easy to take on Tulane on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2:00 p.m.
The Tigers' two opponents have a combined 8-2 record in conference play, beginning with 5-0 UTSA. Memphis (3-12, 1-3 AAC) dropped two road contests last week to UAB and Rice.
Alasia Smith picked up her third double-double of conference play in Birmingham and is averaging 12.1 points and 8.3 rebounds. Tilly Boler leads the team with 16.9 points per game, fueled by seven 20-point performances which leads the conference.
Game One: UTSA
The Roadrunners (14-2, 5-0 AAC) come to Bluff City on a seven-game winning streak having most recently defeated Wichita State, 69-51, at home. Memphis also beat WSU at home on New Year's Day in the first conference game of the season.
In just the second all-time meeting between the teams, Memphis picked up a thrilling 60-53 victory on Feb. 22, 2024, in Memphis to level the series. Alasia Smith picked up her sixth double-double of the conference season with 12 points and 17 rebounds, and Madison Griggs added 13 points.
UTSA is coached by Karen Aston, who has conducted improvements in every season in charge. They won seven games in 2021-22, 13 in 2022-23, 18 last season and are on pace to pass that figure in Aston's fourth year. USC senior transfer Jordyn Jenkins leads the way with 19.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest. They lead the conference in points allowed per game (54.7) and rebounds margin (+11.2).
Game Two: Tulane
While Memphis hosts the Roadrunners, the Green Wave (10-6, 3-2 AAC) will be in Wichita playing the Shockers. Like the Tigers, Tulane played a thrilling game at home against North Texas, coming away with a 65-62 victory while Memphis fell, 73-71.
The Tigers have a 32-26 all-time record over Tulane including three consecutive wins and a season sweep in 2023-24. Memphis overcame a 24-12 first-quarter deficit to beat Tulane in overtime at home and won a rock fight, 54-44, in New Orleans.
Lisa Stockton is in her 30th year at Tulane and rapidly approaching 600 career wins. They have been to the NCAA Tournament 11 times and the WNIT on 10 occasions under her leadership. They have five players – Sherese Pittman, Amira Mabry, Kyren Whittington, Kendall Sneed and Victoria Keenan – who are averaging between 10 and 13 points per game, with four of them averaging over a steal per contest.
